What is a Coventry University Scholarship?

A scholarship is a financial reward to recognise students who have achieved excellence academically or in a particular performance area and is not repayable.

How much is a Scholarship?

Our scholarships are either £1,000, £2,000 or £4,000 (Sports only) per year and are renewable for each year of study, depending on continued high achievement. This means that potentially you could receive up to £6,000 in cash reward on a three year course. For sandwich/industrial years out you will only be awarded half of your scholarship award for that year.

Who is eligible for a Scholarship?

The eligibility criteria for each scholarship is slightly different but at a minimum all students must:

be on a HEFCE funded course that charges the full tuition fee for 2009 (£3,225)
be a new entrant student to the University for the 2009-2010 academic year and starting on stage one of your course (with the exception of those who have progressed from Foundation Art and Design and other foundation stage 0 courses)
meet the normal course entry requirements
have made a firm (CF, UF) commitment to the University during the UCAS admissions phase and made Coventry University your first choice.

When and how will I need to apply for my Scholarship?

Application deadlines

If you meet the eligibility criteria and want to apply for a scholarship then you can download a form and guidance notes (available in Jan 2009) by using the link to the scholarship you are interested in. Forms and any supporting evidence should be returned to the Student Funding Office at the address shown.

All applications for the Sports, Enterprise and Creative or Performing Arts Scholarships need to be submitted by 30 June 2009 as the assessment process is complex.

Applications for the Academic and Opportunity Scholarships need to be submitted by 31 October 2009.

No application is required for the Achievement Scholarship.

Please note:
Students may apply for more than one scholarship but can only receive a maximum of one scholarship.
Students on courses whose fees are funded by external bodies, for example the National Health Service or the NHS Business Services Authority (social work) are only eligible to apply for the Creative or Performing Arts and Sports Scholarships.
All information regarding scholarships may be subject to change.

What Scholarships are available?

Coventry University is proud of our wide range of scholarships aiming to reward the variety of prior experiences and achievements that students may wish to offer:

Academic Scholarship 09-10 - £
2,000 per year available if students can achieve at least 320 UCAS tariff points from either 3 full A levels, an International Baccalaureate with at least 31 points or by completing vocational qualifications such as BTEC National Diploma or an Access course. You will then need to maintain a high level of academic performance throughout your course.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Scholarship 09-10 - The full tuition fee (3,225 in 2009) will be paid for those students taking specified course and achieve 320 UCAS tariff points from 3 full A-levels. The courses are marked with the atomic symbol in the 2009 prospectus. If you maintain a high level of academic performance then your fees will be paid each year.

Sports Scholarship 09-10
- Up to £4,000 (combination of a cash reward and services) per year available to students who can demonstrate excellence in a sporting activity and will represent the University at a high level in that sport. You must be participating in a sport recognised by the Central Council for Physical Recreation (CCPR).

Creative or Performing Arts Scholarship 09-10- £2,000 per year available to students who are able to demonstrate a high level of originality or artistic ability in creative or performing arts. Whatever your interest the scholarship will be based on a skills assessment rather than pure academic achievement. You will be expected to continue to develop your creative interest while at the University.

Enterprise Scholarship 09-10 - £2,000 per year available to students providing that they can demonstrate excellence in enterprise and entrepreneurship activities at the University.

Achievement Scholarships (2010) - £1,000 per year available to students who have completed their first year of study at Coventry University and achieve an average mark of 70% or more. The scholarship is paid in the following academic year (2010) and is available for subsequent years if students continue to maintain a high standard.

If I am eligible, when will I receive my Scholarship? If you are eligible the scholarship is paid direct to you and cannot be deducted from your tuition fees. Scholarships are normally paid in two equal instalments in the months January and March of each academic year. Scholarships are there to help support you whilst you’re studying to help with costs such as tuition fees, accommodation, books, equipment, travel, study aids, childcare or other course related costs.
