CA, CGA or CMA?
Mount Royal’s Bachelor of Business Administration — Accounting program is designed to prepare you for further training as a Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified General Accountant (CGA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA). With guidance from faculty advisors, you can tailor your courses to pursue any one of these three designations.
Please note that, as of April 2008, applied degree graduates will no longer be eligible for the CA designation. Students currently in the applied degree programs will still be eligible to further their training as a Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified General Accountant (CGA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
Career choices
You will graduate ‘job ready,’ and the majority of graduates find full-time work in the field within six months of graduation.
Your job title could be:
Accountant — handle financial records, budgeting, taxes and financial reports for a business.
Controller — oversee, as a corporate officer, all financial matters in a business.
Auditor — prepare an organization’s financial statements for investors, government authorities and other external stakeholders. Auditors are also hired by companies to conduct internal audits to check for mismanagement, waste or fraud.
Analyst — working closely with division managers to make the best business decisions.
Tax specialist — provide tax-related accounting consultation.
Faculty expertise
All faculty members who teach core courses in the program have extensive experience in business, industry or private practice as accountants in addition to their academic credentials. Several full- and part-time faculty also teach courses in the CMA Strategic Leadership program and the CA School of Business (CASB).
Other options
You can choose to exit the program after two years with a Business Administration Diploma, or you can take the Advanced Accounting certificate program.
