Major in Accounting and Information Systems at Santa Clara University
Beginning in 2007, SCU is offering a major in Accounting and Information Systems for students in the Leavey School of Business.

This new program will focus on use of computer information systems and analytical decision-making methods in relation to accounting. Students will build skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating today’s business accounting systems.

honours degree of Bachelor of Commerce-Accounting

Description

Includes a separate one year program following on from a corresponding Bachelor degree.
General Requirements
(a)Qualified for the award of the corresponding degree of Bachelor of Macquarie University; and (b)Attained a standard of achievement in the units completed for such degree approved by the designated Dean of Division concerned; OR
Hold from another university or other tertiary institution qualifications and academic attainments approved by the designated Dean of Division concerned as equivalent to those required in 1 above
complete a minimum of 24 credit points in a program of study prescribed by the Dean of the Division in which the candidate is registered

Elective Courses
Students can choose a wide range of elective courses from accounting or any business disciplines courses approved by the Dean.

The Dissertation
The Dissertation is intended to assess students’ critical thinking ability and build the vital skills to conduct quality research within accounting areas of their interest that have practical or theoretical implications. Under the supervision of a Graduate Committee, candidates undertake this research and then present this academic writing (comprising of a maximum of 30,000 words) for examination. It will be assessed by an internal as well as an external examiner.

The graduate certificate in accounting will help you expand your accounting knowledge and increase your career opportunities. It may fulfill the education requirements to sit for the CPA or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) examinations.

The certificate may be completed as a separate program. In addition, students completing the certificate may enter the master of accountancy (MAc) program and earn the degree with as few as 7 additional classes. Students considering the possibility of entering the MAc program should consult with a School of Accounting advisor early to ensure that the courses selected will satisfy the MAc requirements and thereby minimize the number of courses required to complete the degree.

Students must complete five 300-level ACCTG-prefix courses for a total of 15 units. One accounting (ACCTG) course may be replaced with a taxation (TAX) or information technology management (ITM) 300-level course with the prior written approval from the dean of the School of Accounting. All prerequisites must be satisfied.

All courses must be taken at Golden Gate University and passed with at least an overall GPA of 3.0 (B).
