DAP Scholarships and Awards

Accounting Scholarships Awards Sauder School Of BusinessScholarships and awards are available to DAP students and are awarded based on a combination of academic achievement and/or achievement in extra curricular activities such as leadership and community service. Most awards by application are posted in Feb/March and July/August. Current scholarships and awards, along with application deadlines, are listed below. Students will be notified via email of any new opportunities as they arise.

Loans

Student loans are government-funded repayable financial assistance. This funding is intended to help students finance their post-secondary education. Please refer to the Awards, Fees & Finances section of the UBC website.

DAP Entrance Scholarships

The following entrance scholarships recognize and reward the achievements of incoming Sauder School of Business DAP students:

01679 Diploma in Accounting Program (DAP) Annual Golf Tournament Entrance Scholarship

Scholarships totalling $1,000 have been endowed through proceeds from the Annual DAP Alumni Golf Tournament to recognize outstanding students entering the Diploma in Accounting Program. The scholarships are made on the recommendation of the Sauder School of Business to part-time or full-time students who are enrolled in the DAP Program and demonstrate a combination of academic excellence, strong leadership abilities and community involvement. Applications for these scholarships are available at entry into the DAP program in May and September (First awards available for the 2008/09 Winter Session; September 2008 entry).

DAP Student Scholarships & Awards

In addition to Entrance Scholarships, the following scholarships are available to current DAP students. Scholarships that include criteria other than, or in addition to, academic achievement are available by application. In addition to the criteria in the award description, to qualify for awards students must have completed a minimum of 9 DAP credit units, with a minimum 75% average.

01661 Chartered Accountants Education Foundation Jim Miller D.A.P. Scholarship

Two scholarships of $1,000 each are offered to students enrolled in the Diploma in Accounting Program at the Sauder School of Business. They are awarded on the recommendation of the School to students with high academic standing and leadership ability who intend to become Chartered Accountants (CA’s).

01500 BDO DUNWOODY LLP Service Award

A service award of $2,000 has been endowed by BDO Dunwoody LLP to recognize a student in the Diploma in Accounting Program (DAP). The award is made on the recommendation of the Sauder School of Business to a part-time or full-time student who is enrolled in the DAP Program and demonstrates high levels of community service and volunteerism within the university or community. Award candidates must also demonstrate high academic standing in the DAP Program.

The following awards are based solely on academics and are not by application:

CGA Academic Excellence Scholarship

The Certified General Accountants Association of BC annually awards a $500 scholarship to a DAP student who has completed the two accounting foundation courses with the highest academic standing: BUSI 293 & 294 in the Diploma in Accounting Program, Sauder School of Business. The scholarship will be applied to the student’s tuition fees in Winter Term 1 when the recipient enrols for further studies at the University of British Columbia - Diploma in Accounting Program.

DAP Graduation Awards

CGA Continuing Education Tuition Scholarship

The Certified General Accountants Association of BC annually awards a $2000 scholarship to a graduate of the Diploma in Accounting Program in the Sauder School of Business. The recipient is an outstanding student with demonstrated interest and experience in accounting. The scholarship will be applied to tuition fees when the recipient enrols in the professional education program of the CGA.

Deadline for Application: April 15
(Please submit a cover letter with your scholarship application, indicating your interest and experience in accounting, along with a demonstrated interest in enrolling in the CGA Program.)

The following awards are based solely on academics and are not by application.

DAP Outstanding Student Award

One award for $1,000 and two awards for $500 will be awarded to three DAP Graduates twice a year: May and November. These awards are meant to recognize graduates with significant academic achievements during the Diploma in Accounting Program, including having one of the highest graduating averages in the following courses:

BUSI 353 Intermediate Financial Accounting I
BUSI 354 Cost Accounting
BUSI 355 Introduction to Income Tax
BUSI 450 Intermediate Financial Accounting II
BUSI 453 Advanced Financial Accounting
BUSI 455 Principles of Auditing

Applications are not required for the DAP Outstanding Student Awards.

The following awards are available to DAP students through external application. Please review award details for the following awards to verify the application deadline and specific requirements for each award.

PricewaterhouseCoopers Core Values Award

We want to hear how you, as University of British Columbia, DAP students, exemplify the core values of PwC. We invite you to provide a 1,000 – 1,200 word composition indicating how you have applied the PricewaterhouseCoopers core values in your life experiences. Your experience can include student involvement, work experience or any experiences where you have found the core values to be important to you and your success. We want you to tell us how living our core values has resulted in unique individual experience and personal achievement. One winning composition will be selected and the recipient will win a $1,000 award!

All scholarship documents must be filled out and submitted to the DAP office by the application deadline to be considered for DAP Entrance and Student Scholarships and Awards. To apply for the DAP Entrance and Student Scholarships and Awards, students must:

Submit 2 Reference Letters to the DAP Office in support of your application

Major in Accounting at Santa Clara University

Major in Accounting and Information Systems at Santa Clara University
Beginning in 2007, SCU is offering a major in Accounting and Information Systems for students in the Leavey School of Business.

This new program will focus on use of computer information systems and analytical decision-making methods in relation to accounting. Students will build skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating today’s business accounting systems.

Careers in Accounting at Samford University

Accounting programs at the Brock School of Business prepare students for a career in this dynamic profession and for successful completion of the CPA exam. Success in the accounting profession, be it working for one’s own firm, a corporate accounting department, a public accounting firmor a nonprofit or government agency, typically includes successfully passing the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Exam.  In nearly all states, the CPA exam can only be taken after completing a 150-hour program of study. A combination of the B.S.B.A. accounting major and the M.Acc. degree fulfills this requirement. Taking the M.Acc. courses upon completion of the undergraduate degree places students in the workforce in only one year from completion of an undergraduate degree program and the M.A.cc prorgam. Beginning in the 2009 school year, the Brock School of Business will offer a 150-hour joint B.S.B.A. Accounting/M.Acc degree program.

The Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) program prepares graduates to succeed as accountants and advisors to organizations in today’s dynamic, global business environment. The graduate program at the Brock School of Business works effectively with others to provide a network to help students, faculty and alumni connect with accounting professionals to facilitate career and placement opportunities for students.
