The goal of the four-year program leading to B.Sc. (Hons) degree is to prepare the students in the versatile areas of Accounting & Finance. The program accomplishes this task by offering a broad range of course work, emphasizing and developing critical skills in the students and providing students with real work experience through social work, real time projects and internships. Technology, ethics, e-business, management techniques, critical thinking, problem solving, research methods and statistical analysis are the main components of the curriculum.

The Master of Science in Accounting and Information Analysis Program is designed to provide students with the skills they need to understand today’s changeable business environment and resolve complex business problems. The Program provides a broad business view, while focusing on the type of coursework needed by today’s accountants in a variety of venues from Wall Street to Main Street.
Students in the Master of Science in Accounting and Information Analysis Program exhibit an increasingly diverse set of backgrounds. In Year 1, you focus on the core subjects and skills of financial and management accounting, learning the basics of business studies and information analysis alongside a range of business modules of your choice. In Year 2 and your final year, you study the principles of financial and management accounting techniques. In addition, you can choose from a wide range of specialist areas to develop your learning according to your interests, such as finance, taxation or auditing.

An optional work placement is available during your third year and is especially useful for students with limited work experience. In the final year, 50% of modules are designated ‘honours components’ that build on the knowledge and skills gained in Year 2 and develop your ability to study and learn independently. They may include a dissertation or synoptic modules that require you to bring together and apply learning from the whole of your course and options chosen from the different aspects of accounting.

Offered as either single or combined honours programmes, these three-year (four, if you include an optional year-long work placement), broad-based courses encompass general management subjects such as finance, economics, law, business, mathematics and computing, as well as developing the practical skills of the accountant from an international perspective. They aim to provide you with the necessary technical skills to begin a career in accounting or business and to provide a theoretical background to the practice of accounting.

admissions

Requirements for admission are:
a university degree in law;
a higher education degree in another discipline, provided the applicant is able to evidence relevant previous legal knowledge;
at least one year work experience related to international business and tax law.

The board in charge of scientific organization decides on the admission of applicants on the basis of the written application and enclosures, including a CV, a description of medium-term professional goals and an interview. Decision makers without an academic degree but with outstanding professional achievements may be admitted to the program as a special exception in accordance with the criteria regulated by the admissions procedure on a case-by-case basis. Participants are expected to have a sound command of English.

Evidenced achievement from relevant courses may be recognized in individual cases under certain conditions.

The FAFSA project involves marketing majors and accounting students. Help low-income and immigrant families fill out FAFSA forms, enabling these students a chance at a college education.

Tax Clinics allow accounting students to get work experience with real-life clients, and at the same time assist homeless, low-income or immigrant families.

The Accounting curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge and the skills necessary for employment and growth in the accounting profession. Using the language of business, accountants assemble and analyze, process, and communicate essential information about financial operations.

In addition to course work in accounting principles, theories, and practice, students will study business law, finance, management, and economics. Related skills are developed through the study of communications, computer applications, financial analysis, critical thinking skills, and ethics.

Graduates should qualify for entry-level accounting positions in many types of organizations including accounting firms, small businesses, manufacturing firms, banks, hospitals, school systems, and governmental agencies. The qualification is recognised as being challenging, developing expertise and knowledge which are relevant to employers. ACCA is renowned for the ability of its professionals to apply a broad range of strategic skills in the workplace.
Course content

This is a broad-based qualification, focusing on the essential skills of accounting, business and finance. It offers a choice of examinations and work experience competences to allow you and your sponsors to tailor the path of the qualification to suit your needs and aspirations.

The ACCA is recognised as a provider of international qualifications – a reputation which stems from ACCA being the first body to examine in international accounting standards, now increasingly a requirement for financial reporting. Multinational organisations also recognise the value of having accountants and finance professionals trained to consistently high standards in all their operations.

Subjects are specified by the ACCA and attendance comprises lectures and workshops. All potential students are advised to obtain up-to-date information from the ACCA on subjects studied. If you have previous accounting knowledge you may be able to claim exemptions from some of the papers. ACCA will advise your exemption status.

Birmingham City Business School has been designated a Premier Plus tuition provider by ACCA – the highest level of recognition. Many students will already be in employment and the course is intended to enhance career prospects as well as self-development.
Attendance

Attendance is flexible full day, part day and/or evenings. Students are expected to prepare work and read supporting texts for an amount of time at least equal to the time spent in classes.
Entry requirements

You must be accepted as registered students by the ACCA. Minimum requirements are normally two A Levels and three GCSEs including Mathematics and English, although alternative qualifications are accepted. The exemptions given are dependent upon further qualifications e.g. non-relevant degree, HND or relevant degree.

The Master’s Degree in Accounting & Control seeks to convey the knowledge, skills and technology needed to operate successfully nellambito direction of administration and control of enterprises and medium-sized or large companies that offer consulting services in the administrative area.

The course is aimed at young graduates in the areas economic, legal, scientific and humanities, with a brief work experience or training. The MIAC is developing in different stages of training, aimed at the gradual deepening of theoretical knowledge to translate their application and development of skills needed to cover roles dynamic and advanced.

The program includes, in addition to classroom teaching, discussion of cases, group work, witnesses and a corporate internship or field project at leading companies.
